Newly Upgraded Structure
The Gateron KS-22 Optical switch is crafted with a transparent cover and black base. As an upgraded version of the KS-15 switches, we designed the KS-22 switches with a new structure and a more stable, smooth hand feel. Unlike a mechanical switch, an optical switch uses light for actuation instead of a metal-to-metal connection, enhancing the trigger speed over mechanical switches.

How They Work
The infrared optical sensing component uses light-sensing principles to generate different but equivalent resistance to form two states of open circuits and paths, thereby triggering the key signal command.

PS: SMD is an acronym for Surface Mounted Device. Their LEDs are attached to a rectangular printed circuit board (PCB). These LED chips can come in a variety of shapes and sizes that can produce different light intensities and colors.

No pins on the switches, compatible with keyboards supports Gateron Optical switches (version 2).
Note: Gateron KS-22 optical switch cannot be compatible with regular mechanical keyboards and KS-15 Gateron Optical keyboards. Make sure it is compatible with your keyboard before buying.

The brown optical switches I started with were not tactile in any way so I purchased these blue switches hoping they would actually have a tactile bump. Thankfully they do have a tactile bump. Its not a large bump but it is a bump so I know if I pressed the key or not. The pitch of the click is much higher than my box jade switches but satisfying to listen to.

Good feeling and sounding switch, just doesn't fit corsair k100 because the stem is too fat
I fully switched to optical keyboards with Wooting one, however I needed a TKL keyboard with BT, so I went with Keychron K8 with Gateron Optical V2 red. Bought black keys for spacebar and arrows (like to have them heavier). I got to say this is absolutely perfect.
The Flaretech switches I've been using to this day were smooth, but this is next level. Almost no play in the keystroke, yet the movement stays very smooth and precise. Both red and black are also very quiet meaning most of the keyboard sound is made by the housing. I will be coming back for more variations, just to try them out, but for me this is basically what I've always wanted from a keyboard switch.
